Deliver Us from Evil

by H.M.

One of the greatest obstacles to a life of peace and joy is the plague of fear. People the world over experience various kinds of fear, such as the fear of terrorism, the fear of rejection, the fear of failure, the fear of uncertainty and the fear of Munkar and Nakir! Perhaps the most common fear, however, is the fear of the mischief of evil spirits.

The Plague of Fear

For most people in the world, Satan is not a myth, but rather a reality. Satan strikes terror into the hearts of people in an attempt to destroy their faith in Allah, and to enslave them into a life of misery and corruption. Satan attacks in a variety of ways. He tempts people to perform sinful acts that incur the wrath of Allah. He afflicts people with physical and demonic diseases. He even enters the souls of people to possess them as his own. Worst of all, he blinds the spiritual eyes of people to the mercy and compassion of Allah and whispers the lie that Allah is too remote to be genuinely concerned about their personal difficulties. Thus many people have resigned themselves to a daily fear of Satan and of his army of evil spirits. Countless human beings have become hostages to the reign of evil and terror in their hearts.

When this type of spiritual bondage emerges, people no longer keep their focus on Allah and Allah’s will. Instead, they become preoccupied in coping with the evil mischief in their lives. They want to know how to appease the anger of evil spirits, how to ward off the attacks of evil spirits and how to recover from the affliction of evil spirits. And because these people have succumbed to the lie that Allah is not concerned, and is too far removed from the human realm to care about helping them, they desperately search for someone else who can help. They search especially for people who have access to the spirit powers, who possess the secret knowledge of manipulating the spirits, and who know how to deal with demonic attacks. Such people are spirit practitioners who are known by various titles throughout the world.

These practitioners use a wide variety of methods for contacting and dealing with evil spirits. Their practices include fasting and purification rites, the recitation of scripture, incantation of mystical phrases, the repetition of Allah’s names, the use of magical squares, the burning of incense, the display of talismans (such as the hand of Fatima), the composition of inscriptions for amulets and the sacrifice of animals. Such practices, which are familiar to the many people who are involved with the spirit realm, clearly fall into the category of witchcraft.

The Use of Witchcraft

Witchcraft and its association with evil spirits is a scourge upon the human race that has existed for a long time. In fact, evidence indicates that witchcraft was rampant during the ancient times of the prophet Moses. It was then that Almighty Allah revealed His utter disapproval of witchcraft involvement by issuing this stern warning:

Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist, or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD (Tawrat, Deuteronomy 18:10-12).

There are other scriptures that address this same issue and that help us to understand why Allah clearly forbids any form of witchcraft. Note the following examples:

This is what the Sovereign LORD says: "Woe to the women who sew magic charms on all their wrists and make veils of various lengths for their heads in order to ensnare people. Will you ensnare the lives of my people but preserve your own? ... By lying to my people, who listen to lies, you have killed those who should not have died and have spared those who should not live."

Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: "I am against your magic charms with which you ensnare people like birds and I will tear them from your arms; ... I will tear off your veils and save my people from your hands, and they will no longer fall prey to your power. Then you will know that I am the LORD. Because you disheartened the righteous with your lies... and because you encouraged the wicked not to turn from their evil ways and so save their lives.... I will save my people from your hands. And then you will know that I am the LORD" (Writings of the Prophets, Ezekiel 13:18-23).

In speaking about practitioners involved with magic spells and sorcery, the scriptures declare that though they may succeed and cause terror, "Each of them goes on in his error; there is not one that can save you" (Writings of the Prophets, Isaiah 47:15).

Witchcraft is detestable to Allah

It is clear that those who are involved in witchcraft are detestable to Allah and for good reasons. Witchcraft ensnares people. Because of the fear of how the evil spirits will react, victims who become involved in witchcraft are bound by the need to appease the spirits. Also, witchcraft knows no moral boundaries and therefore encourages wicked deeds. Methods used for securing the desired results are not evaluated in terms of right or wrong, but in terms of success or failure. If they succeed, then they are admissible, even if they violate human conscience. The most critical reason witchcraft is forbidden is because it compels people to depend on a power that is other than Allah. This equates to the sin of shirk, and it is a sin birthed by a lie!
How clever Satan is! Day after day, people hear the invocation, "In the name of Allah, The Merciful, The Compassionate," but they know it only as a ritual phrase, and not a living reality. Satan the accursed has blinded them to the truth that Allah the Creator is indeed merciful and compassionate and by His very nature is the source of deliverance and salvation for the members of His creation.

The greatest lie that Satan will ever whisper in your heart is that Allah does not care about your circumstances. But be encouraged; there is good news. Allah indeed does care and He does want to deliver and protect you from the oppression of evil. After all, He knows that He alone possesses the power to deliver you completely from the snares of the Evil One. Notice how the following scriptures offer words of encouragement and hope for those who trust in Him:

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you (Injil, 1 Peter 5:6,7).

Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.... You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday (Psalm 91:3,5,6).

"Because he loves me." says the LORD, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation" (Psalm 91:14-16).

Allah delivers through Isa Al-Masih

How does Allah show us this deliverance? How does He show us His salvation?

Allah has chosen to reveal this power of deliverance through His choice servant, Isa Al-Masih. When Al-Masih descended upon the world 2,000 years ago, He came to reveal the love f Allah. He came to show people that Allah does care and He demonstrated Allah’s concern through miraculous signs and wonders. These miracles clearly confirmed Allah’s supreme power over Satan and the evil spirits. One example of these miracles is taken from the testimony of the Injil:

The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law. Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an evil spirit cried out, "What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are-the Holy One of God!"
"Be quiet!" said Jesus sternly. "Come out of him!" The evil spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek.

The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, "What is this? A new teaching-and with authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits and they obey him." News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee (Injil, Mark 1:22-28).

Even the evil spirits knew that Isa Al-Masih had the power to destroy them! It is true that spirit practitioners have the ability to manipulate and trick the spirits. But their power is limited and their cures are only temporary. Satan may concede temporary defeat, but only to lure unsuspecting victims further into the intrigue of witchcraft. Then he will not only trap these victims, but he will continue to dispatch his evil spirits to attack them with a vengeance! In this vicious cycle, the victim becomes helplessly ensnared and fully dependent upon witchcraft for daily relief from demonic oppression. The scriptures warn about such a wretched condition:

When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, "I will return to the house I left." When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean, and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first (Injil, Matthew 12:43-45).

In contrast, the scriptures reveal that Isa Al-Masih appeared to humankind to do something more than simply appease or manipulate the evil spirits. He came to cast out the evil spirits and to "destroy the devil’s work" (Injil, 1 John 3:8). The power that emanated from Christ was a power that could bring about a lasting cure and a complete deliverance from any further demonic attack. He was able to free people from the misery of fear. Furthermore, he was able to replace any evil spirit in their lives with the Spirit of Allah who alone is able to strengthen the heart with true righteousness, peace and joy. The scriptures bear this witness:

You God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him (Injil, Acts 10:37-38).

All of this is wonderful news, but now we must turn our attention to you. Are you struggling with the oppression of evil spirits and with the fear of spirit practitioners who themselves are mere mortal beings? If you are, then let Allah speak these words to your heart, and ponder the question which He poses to you:

I, even I, am he who comforts you. Who are you that you fear mortal men...that you forget the LORD your Maker... that you live in constant terror every day because of the wrath of the oppressor, who is bent on destruction? (Writings of the Prophets, Isaiah 51:12-13).

You can be free!

Who are you? What is your problem? What do you need?

Surely, Allah is concerned about your fears and your difficulties. Remember, He wants to deliver you and show you His salvation. You do not need to be bound to a spirit practitioner any longer. You can be totally free from that enslavement.

You may have thought there was no other way to deal with the urgency of your problem, but now you know that there is another way, and it is Allah’s way. Never forget, Allah sent Isa Al-Masih to destroy the works of the devil! But you say that Isa Al-Masih lived 2,000 years ago and is no longer available to offer help. It is true that he lived 2,000 years ago, but you will find no tomb today that holds his body. For Allah lifted Isa up to Himself where He continues to be held in honor for now and evermore! Allah never withdrew this honor and power from him. Isa Al-Masih still lives, and He continues to deliver people from the torment of Satan!

If you are in need of this deliverance, call upon the name of Isa Al-Masih. Accept him as Allah’s mercy for you. He will come to help you and to reveal to you Allah’s comfort for your life. He will turn your sleepless nights into peaceful rest. He will take away your fear and give you joy in return. He will liberate you from the darkness of the evil realm and usher you into the wonderful Light of Allah’s presence. He will be Allah’s refuge for you. And so take a step of faith in your spiritual pilgrimage. Let Isa Al-Masih truly become your Savior and Deliverer, and let his name forever remind you of the Mercy and Compassion of Almighty Allah who is always ready to deliver us from evil!
